This is a neat browser-based program that adds artifacts to Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPG/JPEG) pictures. As soon as you paste your JPG/JPEG picture in the input area, the program will generate a JPG/JPEG with artifacts in the output area. You can switch between regular JPG artifacts or add the more modern Webp artifacts. Additionally, you can control the amount of artifacts (their strength) in the options. Created by mad scientists from team Browserling.

This online tool adds artifacts to JPG, JPEG, and JPEG2000 format pictures. As you may know, artifacts appear when a picture is heavily compressed. The compression removes non-essential information from the picture and if the compression is too large, it results in a sharp loss of quality. When the quality of a JPG picture is reduced, coarse pixels appear, the number of colors decreases, and detail gets lost. This rough representation of pixels is called a JPG artifact. You can add JPG artifacts by switching on the "Apply JPG Artifacts" option. The power of damage to a picture by artifacts can be controlled via the "JPG Artifact Strength" option. It uses values from 0% (no artifacts) to 100% (maximum number of artifacts). Another type of artifacts is the Webp artifacts. They appear as a result of lossy compression of Webp pictures. Compared to JPG artifacts, Webp artifacts look slightly different and there are blurry spots and loss of focus. You can add Webp artifacts to a JPG by selecting the "Apply Webp Artifacts" option and adjusting the strength of the artifacts on a scale from 0% to 100%. The artifacts are added to a custom region of the input picture that you can select in the input preview window. You can change this region interactively with your mouse or set it in the options by specifying the region's left/top offset values and dimension values. Jpgabulous!

In this example, we select a rectangular area of a JPG photo and add JPG artifacts to it. We set the artifact strength to 96%, which leads to a lot of pixelation in the photo. The part that gets pixelated is the light bulb with a plant inside of it. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we load a JPEG picture of blue flowers and apply Webp artefacts with the strength of 100% to it. The artefact region is full height but is on the left side of the JPEG, taking 320 pixels of width. The pixels in this region become blurry and patchy, flower leaves become low quality, and pistils disappear. (Source: Pexels.)
In this example, we add the maximum possible amount (100%) of artifacts to the full JPEG/JPEG image. To cover the entire image area, we clear the offset and dimension options. This way, the program automatically adjusts to the artifact area size. We apply the JPG/JPG artifact type and get a rough pixilated image of two sleeping cats. (Source: Pexels.)
