With this online program, you can transform pictures from Joint Photographic Experts Group format (JPEG format) into WebP format pictures. The new and modern WebP format creates images that are about 30% smaller than JPEG (and about 25% smaller than PNG). As the WebP files are smaller, they take less disk space and load very quickly. The downside of WebP is that it doesn't work in all the browsers and systems because it's such a new format. Another feature that WebP has is a transparent alpha channel. In a JPG all pixels are opaque but in a WebP, there can be transparent pixels. In the options of this utility, you can specify the WebP quality argument and enable WebP transparency. The WebP quality can range from 0% to 100%, with 0% being the worst quality (highest compression) and 100% being lossless quality (compression isn't used). If you enable WebP transparency, then all pixels in the near range of the selected color will be made transparent. The range of colors can be adjusted via the shade match option. Jpg-abulous!

This example converts a JPG photo of tasty pancakes to a WebP photo. The quality for the output WebP is set to 65%, which is a good compromise between quality and file size. As a result, the input JPG with the file size of 280KB gets squished to just 50KB.
In this example, we create a WebP image with a transparent background. The input JPG picture has an opaque orange background and during the conversion to WebP, the background gets removed. To do this, we set the transparent color to the hex code #f89e42 (which is orange) and add 15% of orange shades. To get the perfect picture of a drop falling in water, we use 100% quality for the WebP output file.
In this example, we set the WebP quality to 0%. This should completely destroy the WebP and the resulting picture should be made just from the WebP compression artifacts. Incredibly, the heavily compressed WebP is still pretty good looking and its file size has decreased 67-fold. The original JPG is 135 kilobytes in size and the output WebP is only 2 kilobytes in size. Using 0% quality WebPs is a nice trick if you need to convey the essence of the image without all the high quality details.
