With this online program, you can convert JPG, JPEG, and JPEG2000 pictures into just two-color pictures that are created from black and white colors. Such pictures are often also called B&W JPGs or binary JPGs. This name comes from the fact that each pixel can be represented with only value 0 or 1, where 0 means black and 1 means white (or the other way around). This program is equipped with two methods for creating a black and white picture. The first method uses the k-means color quantization algorithm. This method reduces the number of colors in a JPG to two and combines similar colors into joint regions that are then colored black or white. The second method uses the dithering algorithm. This method applies noise to randomize the quantization error and the output picture consists of many dots of different densities that convey the dark and light areas of the image and prevent color banding. The dithering method is more detailed and supports 9 types of optimization such as Stucki, Atkinson, and Floyd-Steinberg. By default, the program turns the dark areas of a JPG to black and the light areas of the image to white.
